Low-vision optometrists have a major role in screening and testing of AMD patients for OriLens implantation.
The OriLens is a new generation of mirror telescopic implants that is designed to improve near and distant vision of many medium to late stage AMD patients. It uses advanced optical technology to magnify the image on the patient’s macula, helping the patient to detect images that could not be detected otherwise.
It provides approximately 250% magnification. Like external telescopesת it improves the patient’s quality of vision for near and for distance. However, since the OriLens is implanted inside the eye, it has several important advantages over external magnifiers.
